Northamptonshire at the forefront of design and new technology

With the build up to the British Grand Prix well underway, this year there’s even more excitement around the event than usual. In the highest profile UK motorsport race of the year, the brand new Silverstone Wing development will be seen by millions of viewers around the world in all its glory.

The striking new building is a very visible indication of Northamptonshire’s leading position within this sector and has been developed to be a key hub of the Grand Prix race, providing world class pit and paddock facilities. The £26 million development, which was instrumental in ensuring the future of the Grand Prix in Northamptonshire, is also a state of the art conference and event facility with 1,000 people capacity exhibition halls, auditorium, catering space and breakout areas.

The Wing has already received rave reviews, with a recent article in The Guardian stating that “Looking at the new facility today it seems almost inconceivable that Silverstone's future was in serious doubt only two years ago”.

Northamptonshire is at the heart of British motorsport and, just as importantly, is at the centre of a globally significant cluster of performance engineering companies such as Flybrid, Delta Motorsport, Mercedes HPE, RML and Cosworth that develop technology and products that help to power the F1 GP and other racing today and which, very likely, will influence all our lives in the years to come through broader applications in areas such as automotive, aerospace and low carbon engineering.

This is about cutting edge design and technology and Northamptonshire is very good at it.
