The vast majority of the UK population still do not have a Will, despite a large proportion of them stating in a survey that they have a good idea where they would like their estate to go upon their demise. If you are still wavering about whether to make a Will or where to leave your treasured possessions, have a ponder on these unusual requests:
In 1974 a dentist left his dental nurse £181,000.00 provided she did not go with men or wear make-up or jewellery for five years;
Samuel Bratt’s wife had not let him smoke. On his death in 1960 he left her £330,000.00 making it conditional upon her smoking five cigars a day;
A lady left £100,000.00 in 1990 to the King George Hospital for the specific purpose of the “expansion, improvement and maintenance of its lavatories”;
Juan Potomachi left the equivalent of around £30,000 to the Buenos Aires-based Teatro Dramatic Theatre provided his skull be used for all future productions of Hamlet;
Amy Bachman in 1959 left over $600,000.00 to her dog Bingo, just $1 to her husband and nothing to her son;
David Davis left his wife five shillings to “enable her to get drunk for the last time at my expense” back in 1788.
